Hi Mike,
If I had my choice between the fall and winter photo trains on the D&S, I would pick the winter edition. That's because the winter train is alone on the line and does not have to compete with the regular tourist trains. It is the constant concern about not delaying the tourist trains that sometimes results in photo stops being canceled on special trains run during the regular season. The winter train does not go beyond Cascade, so you won't see the northern half of the line, but there is plenty of spectacular scenery between Rockwood and Cascade and the only constraint the winter train faces is the crew's duty day.
