Actually the Whistle signal for level crossings is one Long usually about 100 yards out. The only continuous blast was when two trains on double track were going to occupy a crossing at the same time. Usually just a short pop or no whistle is normal. My best Driver who taught me to drive was always saying "
if they can't see the headlight, they ain't going to hear the horn."
Idiots and stupid people walk or drive into the path of trains in both your country and mine with appalling regularity. Best thing you can do is tie them up at home with their dogs.
