For those who might be interested—
Ernie Robart just informed me that AT&SF 4-8-4 #2926 in Albuquerque was steamed up yesterday for the first time since about 1955! It will be under steam through today. They plan to take it to full pressure till it pops off at 290 pounds. Ernie says it isn’t going anywhere with this steamup as the pistons are not installed— just checking the boiler. So far, so good. Pretty exciting for those of us in New Mexico to see this example of the largest, heaviest and most powerful class of 4-8-4 Northern returning to service!
