Rico Water Tank

September 21, 2003 12:10PM
Our crews start work very shortly on initial roofing on the Rico water tank. It will be temporary work to get the tank through the winter. New roof sheathing and wood shingles go on next year. We are also doing some work on the Atlantic Cable Headframe and the VanWinkle Hoist House. All of these are properties of the Town of Rico and the work is being paid for by a grant from the Colorado Historical Fund--money derived from taxes levied on gambling in Colorado.
Rico is starting to come alive--the first over $400,000 house recently sold there and with a first-ever municipal sewage system going in, the price of real estate and demand for it is dramatically increasing. The need to preserve what's left of the mining and railroad heritage becomes critical in the face of impending development.
