Lucius was known for printing anything he thought was a neat story without being bothered by facts. So the car pictured in "Narrow Gauge in the Rockies" does still exist and does carry the name "Nomad" but 'twas never General Palmer's private car. It only got the name in the late1950's. I was so bummed to discover that as a teenager.
Another such fun error in one of his books is a picture of "Mears Jct." I can't recall off-hand if it's in NGitR or RG:MotR but the picture is of the Mears Jct. *sign* in front of a 3-way stub switch and was taken at the NG Museum in Alamosa...
He's still a great read and had a good eye. Just take his prose with a large dose of salt.
