From the Durango Railroad Historical Society....
ENGINE HOUSE
Last week the San Juan County Historical Society received notice that they won a grant from the State Historical Society for the next phase in restoring the building: repairing the exterior walls, windows, and structure and adding a new roof.
The last week or so the weather in Rockwood and Silverton has been warm (too warm) and dry. The 476 is in Silverton getting a boiler wash at the wye where there is a cinder pit. The 480 and 481 are making the runs and the 473 is on the spur at Rockwood being held in reserve. It is hard work and long hours caring for the engines outdoors, but the crews are doing a great job of keeping them running.
