I dont know how old that picture of 499 is but everytime I see a pic of it post fire it pisses me off. They allowed the 0584 metal part be scrapped after many folks screamed at them not too and then played dumb after the fact. Also the condition they allow the 499 to remain in is damn deplorable and ignorant. They had money post fire to do a good cosmetic restoration of 499 and didn't. If it was my call they should have it taken away as they dont care about its historical value. To answer your question a couple yrs ago 493 and 498 were for sale and the D&SNG was asking $150k each. Also the idea that the K-37s are in such bad shape is also a myth. Yes most have been idle since the 60's but as was found out with the 493 their boilers are in much better condition than any operating K class today. I have a feeling we will see more of them come back to life. We might need to start a movement to get 499 rescued from her abusive care takers though, anyone game?
