I think that the offcial vs the way things actuallywere done trickled down to many things on the Rio Grande narrow gauge. One if the things I have enjoyed about working on D&RGW cars is that any shortcut I have ever thought of taking was done ten tmes worse by the Rio Grande. (I am not knocking the Rio Grande car shops, just noting that they weren’t trying to build a perfect model, they were just trying to keep the antiquated junk heeps rolling)
