Carnival Corporation & PLC Is Taking Over The White Pass & Yukon Route Railway In Alaska.
Carnival's subsidiary company, Holland Aamerica Princess Alaska tours, has agreed to buy the railway along with its port and retail operations in Skagway, from TWC enterprises ltd. for $290 million U.S. The agreement outlines that Survey Point, P3 Group and Rail Management Services, an affiliate of Survey Point, will own a majority stake in the company, and Carnival Corporation & PLC will retain a minority position in the enterprise
According to a news release a joint venture between Carnival and Survey Point Holdings, Inc, Survey Point will the manage the port, White Pass Scenic Railway and the associated retail operations.
Many of the riders are cruise ship passengers on a day trip from Skagway. The railway has said 5,000 to 6,000 people ride the train on a typical day.
News on the steam engine from the White Pass
Engine #69 is currently at our shops here in Skagway undergoing maintenance. Engine #73 is down for it’s 15 year FRA rebuild. We expect that #73 will re-join the fleet next summer to offer the Fraser Meadows Steam Excursion once again. We are very excited and hopeful to be offering it again in the summer of 2019!
