Posted this on my Facebook page and will repeat most of it here.
Yogi once said "It ain't over till it is over." The 416 fire is still burning west of Durango and is only partially contained. But the populated areas are no longer in danger.
My beautiful valley is burned and scared on the west side, but is as beautiful as ever on the east side. The heroic firefighters saved every home.
Hermosa Creek is flowing black with ash and soot, but the flash flooding that was feared did not happen.
Most of the fire fighters are camping in tents only about 150 yards from my home. Some talents ladies in my neighborhood made signs thanking the fire fighters and they are displayed along Highway 550 in front our homes.
Today after church, I drove up the valley to Shalona Lake. The fire area looks awful as all forest fires do, but it will recover. The east side of Highway 550 was not touched by the fire and the D&S tracks were normal. Hopefully will see K-28s and K-36s again soon,
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and care. I did not fear for my life, I survived Vietnam and Anne's death, so have been through worse, but it is stressful to face the possibility of the loss of most of your earthly possessions. God brought the rains we all prayed for, showing his grace and mercy,
