Any time a locomotive is involved in something like that, it is required to be inspected for damage, and forms filled out to document it's condition. It can not be returned to service in less than 100% condition.
That 487 was in service yesterday indicates that proper inspection and repair was made.
Good question, but not to worry. This is a issue of safety, not only to the locomotive itself, but of human life. It is taken very seriously.
