I will always believe that the 'sports model' nickname--if it was ever used at all, by railroad men--must have originated as sarcasm. "Oh, it can do 45? We got a real sport model here boys! (rolleyes)." Those things were nobody's idea of fast in an era of 80 MPH passenger express trains. Even on the same narrow gauge the T-12's were as fast or faster.
