Because of the agreement with the Santa Fe that ended the dispute in the Royal Gorge and elsewhere, the Rio Grande could not build south of the location of Espanola during a scertain period of time. So the extension between Espanola and Santa Fe was not constructed as part of the Rio Grande. The name of the railroad was the Texas, Santa Fe and Northern Railroad. The long-term plans of the TSF&N called for the construction of a railroad spanning from Texas to Utah. Nothing was built beyond Espanola and Santa Fe.
