Re: Doe River Gorge New Cars

One of the cars is 40' long, and the other is 38' long. Both are steel framed, have air brakes, and are on D&RGW freight trucks, which are larger than the current D&RG freight trucks that the gorge has on other equipment. They seem to have been home built, somewhat patterned on the Crown passenger cars that Dry Gulch has. Handbrakes will be added, and steps for passengers will also be added in the future (currently, high platforms will be used for passenger access). They have 3/4 size couplers, necessitating a change in couplers for the 8 ton Plymouth diesel, since current cars are equipped with standard gauge couplers. That extra 3/4 coupler also came from Dry Gulch's stock of spare parts. It is hoped to repaint the cars in a paint scheme reminiscent of the old ET&WNC's passenger scheme (dark green with gold lettering & trim).

The Crown's rebuilding also received a boost at the same time, as 2 of the proper-sized injectors had been on order for over 6 months. Now, 4 of the correct size were purchased from Dry Gulch at the same time as the coaches. The Crown is under cover just out of sight in several of the photos!
