Wabtec (successor to Westinghouse Air Brake Company) announced today they are merging into then buying GE Transportation (including the locomotive and transit business). Combined business will double Wabtec's current size. After transaction is completed in early 2019, initially Wabtec stockholders will own 49.9%, GE stockholders will own 40.2% and GE retains 9.9%. Wabtec already owns many other rail related companies including MPI (Former M-K locomotive builder/rebuilder in Boise) and Graham-White-Salem (locomotive auxiliary air device supplier).
