I know this patch is not an antique, I only paid a few bucks for it.
But it is different from other patches that I have. It seems to have been sown on cloth instead of rigid patch material and is very flexible, not like a stiff modern patch. Most modern patches I have appear to have some type of glue on the back of the patch to keep all of the stitching in place. This patch does not, and you can see where the threads have been tied off.
I compared it with a new Goose patch and there are slight differences. The mouth of the Goose is open on my patch and closed on the new patch. The color of the feathers on my patch are silver and the new patch appears to have some brown in it.
I have compared it with some old patches that I have from W.W.II. It seems to have the same cloth like feel and stitching technique.
Not sure how old it is, I was just curious if anyone know the history of the patch design. Someone told me the design was first introduced on a lunch box that they would pass out to hungry passengers when the Goose was in operation.
Cheers
Bill.
