It's also an interesting comparison between an 1891 Portland Company Locomotive (WW&F #9) and a Vulcan Product (MRR #3) built 21 years later in 1912. At the time this photos was taken, these two were the only extant, operable survivors of the Maine 2-Footers. The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum has since restored Bridgton & Saco River #7 to service. That locomotive was built in 1913 and is nearly twice the size of the two 18-tonners seen in Stewart's photo.
