Here’s a picture I took of RGS Galloping Goose No. 5 sitting forlornly in the weeds in Flanders Park in Dolores, Colorado in August, 1963.
It was put on display in this spot by the town and the Rotary Club in Dolores after having been delivered to Dolores by the railroad’s scrapper in September, 1952.
It would sit there for 35 more years before being restored to operating condition in 1998 by the Galloping Goose Historical Society.
I was 16-years-old then and had absolutely no idea that I would be driving this Galloping Goose on the Durango & Silverton and the Cumbers & Toltec railroads from 2004 through 2017. What an honor!
