Wayne - This car is being rebuilt as new from the remains of stock car 5672. All new wood components except for a couple of pieces of legacy wood on the ends. We felt that since there at least twenty of these cars surviving that we would restore ours back to its original design which makes it look like the box cars but with the stock car siding. We removed all the added metal support blocking from the trucks, replace the newer Westinghouse brake system with the original split system with the smaller air reservoir which allowed us to put the needle beams back in their original position and realign the truss rods so all four are uniform. We eliminated the newer full size couplers and metal buffer blocks as well as the ten foot long oak center sill splices on each end with uniform Douglas Fir center sills. The ends of the car will have the T&G siding and the wood door will slide sideways rather than a drop down door. The entire roof section is of wood construction rather than the later added metal cross section supports that the purlins sat on. The car construction will look more overall similar to our 1899 ACF built F&CC box car. The Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum can easily be found on Facebook. We are located in Nevada City, California.
