Coming around that curve there was little reaction time. No wonder they hit it. In one of our videos we have the first run of 492 after it got the replacement parts in Alamosa. Off the top of my head I think it is "Rio Grande Steam In The 60's". Neat area back there. Only time I was ever between Dulce and Gato was 1971 after the railroad was gone. That is when I discovered Navajo bridge and tank. There is also a shot on film of Navajo with a late afternoon doubleheader in the above mentioned video. Perry Becker shot the films on 16mm. Good stuff. Didn't we get a first hand account of this accident from someone who was on the train....maybe Ed Trump???
