One plate is the superheater company info and notice the 5 bolts which is the mounting for the superheater, There also on the firemans side. The purpose of the small pipes is still up in the air. The 315 folks believe that its to heat the air going to the sanders. There is a coil of pipe inside the smokebox. John bush found a coil when he fixed up the T-12 in Colorado Springs. I'm of the opinion that maybe it has something to do with the flange oilers. The top pipe comes from the cab and the bottom pipe always goes back along the running board and then down. Mark C .
