I followed that article years ago and lowered the boiler on an almost-RGS 41 that way and it was really easy. Of course now I have the Blackstone 41 with the correct connection between the drive rod and number 2 driver (along with a lot of other things!). However, I've always had a thing for D&RGW 375 and the outside frame MDC engine is so close already.
