NZR used its Pacifics for general freight service as well as for the express passenger work the type was mostly associated with elsewhere, hence the large production run. Tractive effort was over 20,000 pounds (over 21,000 by U.S. figuring) so they had reasonable power for pulling surprisingly long freights on the more level routes.
I like the Ab with the black dome....I also sometimes see the type with a brass dome that sticks out and doesn't quite fit the style of the locomotive.
