Fantastic trip. Thanks to Rod for arranging (in his yellow CALTRANS shirt). and thank you to the others for driving the SUV's back and forth.
At Glencoe it was very easy to see the wye and passing tracks, but just northwest we spent a lot of time trying to figure out where we believed an engine house was located across the riverbed. Think we found it but there was not much to go by, and absolutely no artifacts or scrap/trash to place it. You could see on the north side of the canyon where the logging line switchbacked up the side to the plateau. Most of the walk was clear, but did have to do some mountain goating in the narrow parts of the canyon.
I personally was looking for telegraph insulators and left empty handed. There were a dozen poles standing but none still had the insulators and what few wires I found on the ground none had insulators - even deep in the canyon. Guess the RGS was very thrifty in reclamation. Many spikes and such but as previously mentioned they got heavy at the end for my two sons on the trip. In Stevens picture 13 you can see me with the back pack and my sons both in black shirts - which was a problem as the day was hot and pretty humid.
I have 40 or so pictures and can post them if desired. I think I have more of the Glencoe area than posted already. Will look.
