A few years ago there was a charter on the C&TS that ended up being a night run - although not by design. The train pulled into Osier and the crew noticed that a cotter pin had fallen out of part of the spring rigging on 489 and the pin it held in place was just barely with us. Anyway, it took a couple of hours of carefully manouvering the engine back and forth to get things set right again, and we were off. The trip back was quite memorable, especially seeing how the headlight illuminated the track ahead. Anyway, we got back to Chama at around midnight.
The biggest problem was that there were, maybe, 5 flashlights on the whole train, the coaches aren't lit and there was no moon so light was a real problem. But it was a neat trip anyway.
