I probably was as I was the only one that wore goggles and they were my own. I started wearing them in 1980 on the C&TS as a way to keep the cinders from getting behind my contact lenses, which is a real pain when they do.
Maybe the engineer let me run a little that day, so in that case, both the fireman and engineer would be wearing them.
