Re: Water car 9410?????

A recap of the older thread with the link in the post above. All the pictures are in that thread.

Steve Swanson shows the W-481 being converted from an engine tender in 1924 along with W-480 and W482. intended for coal and water for Extra gangs and B&B crews.

Jack Thode's list of the water cars shows the tender cistern came from D&RGW 206 in December of 1924. I have pictures of 206 and all have a flare top tender instead of the wing tender. But they are all very early ( pre 1900) and tenders were swapped on a normal basis. The boiler and evaluation cards do show that #206 was shopped in Dec of 1924 with work being started on 12.01.24.

There are pictures of the W-481 with this tender cistern including a Lawrie Brown picture taken in July of 1939 of #318 with W-481 behind and a Gunnison pic of the rear 1/2 of the W-481. Thode's list shows the W-481 being retired in October 1944 in Salida.

John T the Carman, shows the car card for 06204 having these notes. " Cistern from dismantled NG water car W-481 placed on this car at Salida Oct 1944. See destroyed car file 5183. Tank removed from this car and placed on idler flat 9410 at Alamosa, August 24, 1957." There is a Chione pic in 1955 of part of 06204 showing the extended nipple at the spicket that it still has. The burned area from the work is also in early pics of 09410.
He also shows notes on the 9410. " Retired under AFE 4809 4/1958 from revenue service and transferred to work service at Alamosa. File 6265.
