I notice on some of the DRGW trucks that we use at SVRy that are under former wood flats or gons have a mixture of different journal boxes on the same truck. I doubt if anyone at SVRy swapped this stuff around so it is the way they came to us. Some trucks have one wheel set with journals with a shoulder and the the other wheel set on the same truck is the type without shoulder that uses the little brass pad on the end of the brass to control lateral motion. I wonder if this kind of mishhash of parts was typical of the later years on the NG when all the carman perhaps could do was to canabalize something else rather than buy any thing new?
