Hi Charlie! Yes, CRRM made an embarrassing boo boo with Annual #32. The loco is, indeed, V&T #22 as it appeared in John Wayne's "Red River." This film was shot in 1946 and released in 1948. The train scenes were done in and around Elgin, Arizona, on the Southern Pacific branch to Patagonia. Elgin was "Abilene, Kansas" at the end of the film. This line was also used in other films, including "Oklahoma" and the original "3:10 to Yuma."
I see other people on this thread are citing my long out-of-print book "The Movie Railroads" as a source of information. My new book series, "Hollywood's Railroads," is a much better source with lots more information and photos. "Volume One: Virginia & Truckee" and "Volume Three: Narrow Gauge Country" (covering the D&RGW, RGS, D&S, and C&TS) are available now. "Volume Two: Sierra Railroad" finally goes to the printer on January 15. I often read misinformation and speculation online that would have been answered had those writers bothered to consult a readily available source of accurate information.
