There are times when the fans are as interesting as the trains. But you don't have to dance on the head of a pin, usually there are alternatives. In the case pictured above I wondered around a bit and found a nice spot almost to myself, and got this view. I have no idea how much better the folks on the head of pin did, but I was happy with this.
Going back the the subject of this thread (an amazing concept), my basic point is there are different kinds of railfans who enjoy different things, and different trips for different folks. What is occasionally troubling is some trip organizers will try to maximize sales by suggesting they will make everyone happy, and conversely some folks buy tickets without asking the right questions. It is kinda of a bummer to have to sit next to somebody who is pissed and bitching because either the train is making too many photoshops, or not enough photo stops.
