I know that Earl can testify as to the relative ease and comfort in operating good sized deckless (or near deckless) locomotives built in the first decade of the 20th century vs. ones built in the 1920’s, especially a certain one that hadn’t been updated since leaving Baldwin. As the engineer said as he got off #1744 at the end of her first day of operation at the old Heber Creeper, “Now I know why they called them hogs.”
