I guess my underlying questions are, did they just cut them in Alamosa and other points and send the pieces to Pueblo for smelting? Also, if they cut up in Alamosa, why send a hulk to Pueblo? Was this actually dictated by who owned the scrap?
My reference is what I know about the ATSF scrapping (please Art, jump in and correct me if I am wrong). A lot of their scrapping took place in Topeka and Kansas City but by private companies. Locomotives were sold in bulk and then torched by private businesses. I am wondering if this was similar with the Grande.
I guess ultimately what I am curious about is what are the details on how this part of railroading occurred? It seems to me that the details of these activities are mostly missing from the record for I am sure many reasons. Though it’s sad to think about I am wanting to understand the various details, if they are known (or pictured).
