There is another possibility. I've seen photos of identical tables installed on the end of sidings for turning railbuses. This was a common method for turning a bus where the locomotives weren't turned. One place to see a picture I can recall is "Morristown & Erie" by Thomas Taber III. M&E ran locos in reverse one way, but running a bus backwards wasn't practical. I'm sure there are other examples in print...hoghead32
