Cool set of photos. Reminds me of 1997 when the rotary ran and we came upon this huge boulder near Long Creek. Since we were doing some special trains a few days later we were fortunate enough to be invited along on a work train from Chama to help clear the mess. A track crew had blown it into little pieces by the time we got there. We had a big loader on a flat, and the section guys built a cribbing just like the one in the photo with the bull dozer. In 97 the loader was used to move the big rock chunks off the railroad and some were pushed off the side into the valley. The track gang thought they could repair the track, but it turned out they didn't have the right size rail. So that had to be done a different day. The train was powered by 488, and I think all we had was the flat, and maybe one other car and the caboose. I guess things went down hill after that with Bartholomew!!!
