Yes, that strikes me as odd. You saw this in winter when the snow was deep.

John Degani, who was called to run 486 east was my late first wife's grandfather. He really didn't like to run. He always bid on the hostler job in Durango so he could stay off the road. On this day a double header was called to Silverton, so they must have come up short of engineers and forced him out on the road.
