What is the piece that appears to extend from the base of the tank to where the top and hatch appear to go. In my memory I have never seen a tank with this arrangement and am just curios? The K's tender hatch when open goes directly into the tank of water. This makes it easy to climb in and sweep out the junk cinders and rust flakes that always collect after so many months of service.
