The C&TS is a working Railroad with a continuing effort to restore and maintain a huge fleet of rolling stock. The swamp is out of sight to all but the serious Railfans (who love the junk). I spent many a day in the swamp with Art Randall stacking and digging out parts. What an incredible resource. I am sure glad no one got serious about scrap drives back in 1989 when this picture was taken.
The yard is constantly evolving. this is the area near the original roundhouse in 1989 and in 1991 when the shed was constructed. Again in 1994 and 1998. A lot of hard work and hours have been put into making the entire area pleasing to visitors but not destroying the "atmosphere" of a working railroad yard. And not junking things that will be needed in the future.
Anyone have pictures of the big turntable lying all over the yard? Yes, things like the washing machines and similar need to go at some point.
