More 3400's:
They were the Grande's first 2-8-8-2's built in 1913. The L-96 class was originally numbered 1060-1075, and renumbered 3400-3415. By 1949, there were on their last legs. In typical D&RGW fashion, the old and about to be retired stuff tended to migrate to Alamosa to run out their time. Despite being having their low pressure slide valves replaced with piston valves as well as nearly half the class getting new boilers between 1939 and 1945, the first L-96 was retired in 1947 and the entire class was history by 11/51. The 3403, the somehow favored engine for 115-116, was retired in 8/50.
