I was talking to Dave Ferro who with his wife Laura were the team leaders finding all of the Cumbres Pass structures locations including the old bunkhouse, turntable, depot, water tank, and marking their locations with those round concrete piers you will see today. Dave lead the teams that replaced all of the outbuildings that you can visit behind the Carmen's house because the originals had collapsed years ago because of the heavy winter snows. (Dave used to be the Florida version of SHPO so attention to details was in his DNA). Dave and I have had more than one discussion on the type and color of roofing materials along the line because our teams have replaced most of them, and we both agreed that any replacement roof color such as roll roofing probably had more to do with what was available at the closest hardware store in the area than anything that came out of Denver headquarters. A good example is some of the roll roofing on the Cumbres outbuildings were red, and the rest of the same outbuildings had green roll roofing. (Try to make sense of that...)

BTW, Chuck Dueker and John Sutkus have already replaced the track side half of the sand house last summer so only the east side, (camera side) still needs replacement. All of the new green roofing you see today on the scale house, coal bunkers, outhouses in Chama, as well as the speeder shed in Sublett, the coal bunker and all of the outbuildings on Cumbres Pass are the torch down material, (Bitimus) and should last for 20 years or more and doesn't tear when the wind blows.
