Yeh Casey, it seems to me I have seen an old map showing a mill near what is now the head end of the lake. If it was BWP it would seem more likely to have been down where the BWP Curry line dropped into the valley. Ore. Lbr. evidently had lines up both the bottom of Dean and Clear Crks., so I wonder if they had a mill their in the very early years? Did you conclude in the email you sent a little while ago that the mill in Sumpter was originally Sumpter Land and Timber Co. (do I have the name right?) then later Stoddard Lbr. Co.? It would be interesting to have a time line on where all the various mills were and when they operated. I count at least 8 mills on line not counting the ones actually in Baker. I wonder how sawmill gulch at Sumpter got it's name? Was there a mill on that side of town too?
