Dave I have seen pictures of Mr. Lively and while he wasn't a big man it seems that the opening on that roof would only allow someone who weighs about 100# fit through on the ladder. Mr. Lively (if I recall) suffered from parkinsons disease so I wonder if his wife Ida Mae, or son Ken would change out the lantern.

I'm glad our light is electric and on a timer, (sometimes life in the good old days weren't always good).
