Other major hardware has been custom fabricated for the frame, This photo shows the 1 1/8" diameter tension rods that run the length of the frame. The large webbed washers on each end of these rods were themselves recreated. A custom pattern was made to duplicate the washers on 1006, including the cast-in "C&S" and casting number. These washers were shown in a prior update.
One big milestone (at least to us) was getting the axel bearings refinished on the two historic C&S wheelsets (dated 1928 and 1935) we acquired a while ago. As described in an prior update, we were fortunate to obtain, through Phil Johnson at the Georgetown Loop, two wheelsets he discovered in the large Ashby collection of narrow gauge parts. In June, the wheelsets were transported to a large machining firm in Southern California. It's the same place that has worked on Knott's wheels, and currently the Emma Nevada's drivers.
Here are the finished bearing surfaces. All four were machined and polished to a mirror finish, and to the same diameter (3.830"). Matching diameters simplifies finishing the babbet in the brasses, and different sets of brasses are then interchangeable (at least until worn).
More to follow. An example of the interior cabinetry progress.
