I'll put a plug in for Clark's Trading Post's White Mountain Central Railroad. Wood fired steam logging locomotives (they have a Climax, Heisler, Shay and Baldwin - although only the Climax is running.) While standard gauge and "dressed up" for amusement park service, the crews are very friendly and may even let you up in the cab. They respect their heritage nicely as part of the ROW is on an old logging railroad. Plenty else to do there to keep the family occupied; and they run 7 days a week.
