Apparently, Trains Magazine is reporting this as a fact. The WMSR appears to be proposing dates sometime this winter (in 2018), and they say they will announce the dates two months in advance. They also indicate that they will be contacting each of the ticket holders in the next week to either reschedule or provide a refund. It will be interesting to see how they do that, because a person's decision to reschedule or request a refund would really depend on the new charter dates, which won't be known for some time.
Hopefully, the winter dates can be arranged around weekends vs. squarely in the middle of a week (the current dates are Tue, Wed, Thu). In order to participate in the current dates, one would pretty much have to kill an entire week of vacation (including a travel day on each end). Now, those folks need to find another use for that week of vacation AND plan to use vacation from 2018. I hope they think this through before doing anything hasty and I hope they don't try to force the participants into accepting blind dates.
