The ultimate 'pipe dream' was completed by Chevron
in 1957and moved Gilsonite/water slurry to their
processing plant outside Loma from Bonanza.
When early trucks replaced wagons, any thought of
extending the Uintah Ry to Bonanza went poof.
Demand for Gilsonite just wasn't big enough for much
else or the Uintah Ry would have done it. Like a lot of
early mining, the best material was taken first and
Bonanza produced lower quality. Competition from
other sources eventually closed the pipeline & plant.
