I'd love to know the story behind X65 getting shanghaied into caboose service. The crew's regular crummy must have come up bad-ordered in Chama, and a quick replacement was needed. Knowing how much those RPO's rocked from side to side in those modified freight trucks - especially on the rear end of a train, I imagine the rear end crew was real happy to get back to Alamosa and in solid ground..
I bet there is an interesting story somewhere about what happened to the regular caboose...
.......clobbered too hard switching Chama?......slid flat coming off the hill?.....
Inquiring minds want to know...
