I am curious about the crews that keep the "ancient" locomotives operating on the D&SNG and C&TSRR running year after year if they experience any "special" emotion about the equipment they maintain. It would scare me to death! We are restoring a 1939 vintage SW-1 here at OERM and we have gone to special pains to use pieces and parts as close to original as possible and it is "only" seven decades old. Surprisingly, we have been able to acquire new parts where necessary to help with our job. The steam guys have to make there own parts! Yet many narrow gauge locomotives are still operating coast to coast!
