The fence and charging for admission to Ghost Town was done about 1968. I recall a discussion about the fence, etc. sometime during the first year or so that I was involved at Orange Empire. The story was that the fence and an admission was to keep the "hippies" for hanging around there.
This was also just after Evan Middleton sold the Toy Train shop at Knott's (this was in the era when many of the shops in Ghost Town were individually owned and operated) and then began putting together his display of toy trains and other nostalgia items in the two Rio Grande standard-gauge baggage cars at Orange Empire.
