The most common conversion was the "Commonwealth". The wooden body stays intact which includes the frame that makes up the floor. The steel underframe looks like a logging skeleton flat that bolts under the body. The RPO regulations that started the conversions had steel crash posts to prevent telescoping in the end walls. How they were installed I do not know.
