Hi,
There was a short story by Isamov (maybe) written in the 1950s about a society that had used electric computers and calculator for so long that when a solar flare (or some such) came by and knocked out the world's power grid long enough that the computers would not reboot.
They had to put scientists onto the major project of rediscovering arithmetic.
You could have put quite a few of the books with this short story in the cab of Galloping Goose #6.
